Low-confidence guide — verify on your hardware before relying on these steps. Supermicro BMC firmware differs significantly between board generations (X8 through X12), and these steps come from sparse documentation that has not yet been validated on real hardware. Treat the navigation paths below as a starting point, confirm them against your own board, and report corrections. Owner hardware validation is pending.
Applies to: Supermicro servers with an IPMI 2.0 BMC (X8 / X9 / X10 / X11 / X12 boards).
Supermicro is Experimental with ipmideck — IPMI 2.0 works but is not yet exhaustively tested.

Steps

1

Open the Supermicro BMC web interface

In a browser, navigate to the BMC IP address. The default credentials are ADMIN / ADMIN — change them immediately after first access.

2

Open IPMI / LAN settings

Navigate to Configuration → IPMI Settings. The exact label varies by firmware — it may also appear as IPMI → LAN or Network → IPMI LAN.

3

Confirm IPMI LAN access is enabled

Ensure IPMI LAN Access is enabled and the LAN channel is active. On Supermicro boards the BMC web interface typically has IPMI enabled by default — verify rather than assume.

4

Set authentication (optional)

Optionally configure the Authentication Type — MD5 + SHA is recommended for IPMI 2.0.
5

Save

Click Save or Apply to commit the change.
6

Alternative: configure via BIOS

You can also configure the BMC from BIOS: press DEL during POST → IPMI → BMC Network Configuration → set a static IP.
Flag for review: Supermicro BMC firmware varies a lot across X8–X12 generations and the Configuration → IPMI Settings path is [ASSUMED] for current firmware. Test against your specific board before relying on this guide.
